JACK DANIEL’S
Fourth of July Launch Kicks Off Second Year
of Operation USO Care Package Sponsorship
LYNCHBURG (pop. 361), Tenn. (June 27, 2006) – As Americans are gearing up for this year’s Fourth of July holiday, the folks at the Jack Daniel Distillery are inviting friends to celebrate America’s birthday by “toasting” the men and women of the military.
The Distillery is once again launching the “Toast to the Troops” campaign, where they will collect messages of support—or “toasts”—to include in Operation USO Care Packages for service men and women serving abroad. Toasts will be collected through the Operation USO Care Package Web site (www.usocares.org), the Jack Daniel’s Web site (www.jackdaniels.com), at the Jack Daniel’s Experience during NASCAR races across the country and at selected retail outlets.
The “Toast to the Troops” campaign began in 2005 when the
Distillery collected thousands of messages from citizens across the
In addition to the “toasts,” the USO Care Packages included an assortment of items service members have specifically requested, such as disposable cameras, prepaid international calling cards, toiletries, and sunscreen.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to work with the USO again in this effort to support the men and women of our armed forces,” said Mark Bacon, national brand director for Jack Daniel’s. “We look forward to building upon the success of last year’s program, and hope that thousands of Americans will join with us in this campaign to send their messages of love and support to those who are so worthy.”
USO president and CEO Edward A. Powell said, “We are grateful for Jack Daniel’s support and are excited about this year’s ‘Toast to the Troops’ campaign. We hope the American public will help us show appreciation for our men and women in uniform who have sacrificed so much for our country.”
Plans for this year’s “Toast to the Troops” campaign include stuffing parties to be held at three military installations across the country in the coming months. Those locations and dates will be announced at a later date.
Because of heightened security, individuals can no longer send letters and packages addressed to “Any Service Member.” Approved and endorsed by the Department of Defense, the Operation USO Care Package program is a way to send a message of encouragement to a service member and provide “a touch of home.” The USO has sent out more than 800,000 care packages since the program’s inception in 2001. More information on Operation USO Care Package and other USO programs can be found at www.uso.org.
