A Word of Thanks to U.S. Troops

Radio One and the USO Will Send Needed Reminders of Home

Washington, DC- Radio One is joining forces with the United Service Organizations (USO) to provide its listeners with the unique opportunity to unite in support of America’s brave men and women in uniform this holiday season.  “Operation USO Care Package for the Holidays” enables Radio One listeners to send a care package that will be delivered to service members deployed overseas and include their own personal message of support.

Because of heightened security, individuals can no longer send letters and packages addressed ‘Deliver to Any Service Member.' Approved and endorsed by the Department of Defense, the USO Care Package offers Radio One listeners a way to support  the members of the U.S. Armed Forces separated from their families this holiday season, fighting the war on terrorism.

“These care packages help the USO bring a touch of home to our men and women in uniform,” said Edward A. Powell, President and CEO of USO World Headquarters.

With a $25 donation, Radio One audiences can sponsor a holiday care package to be delivered to a service member deployed overseas.  These care packages include items the troops have requested such as pre-paid calling card, toiletries, disposable cameras, sunscreen, baby wipes.  Each donor can include a personal message of support and thanks.

“We are proud to support the USO Care Package this holiday season,” said  Catherine L. Hughes, founder and chair of Radio One Inc. The men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces risk their lives every day and we are proud to offer our audience the chance to personally thank them for their service and sacrifice.”

Radio One listeners can sponsor USO care packages at www.radioonecares.com. There, listeners can purchase as many care packages as they wish and enter a personal note to the troops who will receive them.

“The USO Care Package program is possible because of the support of corporations like Radio One and its audience,” said Elaine Rogers, USO-Metro President and Worldwide Administrator for Operation USO Care Package. “With the support of Radio One listeners, service members around the world will know they have not been forgotten.”
